Steps for Applying to the Graduate Programs within the Department of Biological Sciences
STEP 1: SECURE A MAJOR PROFESSOR (All programs)
________________________________________________________________________________
DISCLAIMER: Securing a major professor does not guarantee program admission. If an
applicant is not accepted by a faculty member willing to be the major professor, or
by an entrance committee, the admission application will be denied. If an applicant
is not accepted by a faculty member willing to be the major professor* the admission
application will be denied. In addition, incomplete applications are not reviewed
for an admissions decision and securing a major professor is the most crucial requirement.
________________________________________________________________________________
Applicants MUST find a faculty member within the Department of Biological Sciences who is willing to serve as their major professor. Please review this website: https://biology.unt.edu/people/?department=Faculty to identify potential faculty partners. Applicants are encouraged to contact faculty whose research aligns with their previous research experiences and academic pursuits. If considered, the faculty member will contact applicants directly.
If the faculty agrees to serve as the major professor after an initial review, on the applicant’s behalf, the faculty will submit a letter of agreement to the department.
*FOR BIOCHEMISTRY & MOLECULAR BIOLOGY DOCTORATE (BMB PhD) APPLICANTS ONLY: see this website for an additional information: https://biology.unt.edu/graduate-programs/phd-biochemistry-and-molecular-biology-bmb
